David Reynolds on Shane van Gisbergen incident: ”He’s dead to me”

David Reynolds and Shane van Gisbergen collided on lap two of the first race at Phillip Island, leaving the Rod Nash Racing driver fuming.

“It’s not very good but the good drivers in the field, they can pass you without hitting you – obviously I must’ve got a bad one beside me. He’s dead to me bro, dead to me,” said Reynolds in a post-race TV interview.

The two made contact a couple of corners before the final incident which saw the Tekno Autosports driver turning around Reynolds at high speed.

“He was drilling me a few corners before, drilled me at Siberia and must’ve got the tiniest little overlap – I don’t know I was just turned around at high speed. I don’t know – it’s a really, really silly thing. Stupid, man, really stupid,” said Reynolds.

Van Gisbergen admitted that the incident was ”probably a little too much” but that he was along side Reynolds and also referring to the incident a couple of corners earlier.

”…he just run me off the track. Separate incident. But yeah, I gave him a little bump at six, probably a little too much, but then I was clearly beside him and he just kept running me across the road. I was happy with that but then he run too far so I wasn’t going to back out of it,” said Van Gisbergen.

The incident sent Reynolds back to 25th and last position, losing critical points in the title fight, a fight Van Gisbergen is not involved in.

“Championship-wise I know he is in a fight. I am not in it, but that’s not the point, I am still worrying about my championship. I was pushing as far as I could. Sorry to end his race like that, but I wasn’t going to back out,” said Van Gisbergen.

The incident will be investigated by the stewards.
