Andy Priaulx rumoured to be joining Ford WEC programme

Triple World Champion and British Touring Car Championship race winner Andy Priaulx could be joining Ford’s new WEC programme, says motorsport.com, citing an inside source from Ford.

“He’ll be the senior driver in the team and will be able to guide the others from the very start of the programme,” said the anonymous source. “He is still quick and he’ll also be a strong ambassador for the programme from a corporate level, so everyone will be happy.”

The move would mean the end of a long-time association with BMW, which dates back to 2003 when the Guernsey-based driver joined the German manufacturer in the FIA European Touring Car Championship. The Brit won the championship the following year, going on to secure three back-to-back world championships in the newly formed World Touring Car Championship.

Priaulx returned to British touring cars in 2015, scoring two wins and two pole positions on his return to the at the wheel of his West Surrey Racing BMW 125i M Sport. The triple World Champion also contested the European Le Mans Series with Marc VDS, scoring a win in his BMW Z4 GTE and finishing second in the championship.

The Ford move would also mean a return to the Le Mans 24 Hours, which he contested in 2010 and 2011, coming third in his second attempt alongside Dirk Müller and Joey Hand.
