Kevin Magnussen and five drivers to test for Mercedes AMG DTM in Jerez

Mercedes AMG will give six young drivers the opportunity to test the 2015 version of the C63 DTM this week at the Spanish track of Jerez de la Frontera, host of the start of the on-track 2016 preseason.

The Stuttgart works driver Maro Engel, who won the FIA GT World Cup in Macau a week ago at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 will be in Spain for a DTM test. Similarly, ADAC GT Masters champions Luca Ludwig and Sebastian Asch will also be rewarded with a chance to drive the C63 DTM in Jerez.

Former McLaren Formula 1 driver Kevin Magnussen will also test for Mercedes AMG in Spain this week. The Dane is actively looking of a racing appointment for 2016.

There will be an opportunity also for three single-seater young drivers, who will also be at Jerez this week. Jazeman Jaafar has raced in Formula Renault 3.5 for the last three seasons, whilst Raffaele Marciello was the 2013 FIA Formula 3 champion, competing in GP2 for the last two years. 2015 Formula ADAC champion Mikel Jensen will be the last young driver to test the DTM car.

Ulrich Fritz, Head of DTM for Mercedes AMG, is looking forward to evaluating young drivers: “It’s always a great experience to observe talented drivers taking their first steps in our Mercedes AMG C 63 DTM. Our brand has successfully worked to promote young talent in motor racing for many years, so it’s really terrific that we are again able to offer a number of talented racing drivers an opportunity to test our DTM car this week.”

Mercedes AMG’s Pascal Wehrlein, who became the youngest ever DTM champion in 2015, could be moved from the series to Formula 1 by the Stuttgart manufacturer for next season.
