Alexandre Prémat to join Shane van Gisbergen as co-driver

Alexandre Prémat has been confirmed to join Shane van Gisbergen at Triple Eight Race Engineering for the endurance races of the 2016 V8 Supercars, leaving Volvo Polestar Racing.

“I’ve had the chance to race against Shane for the past four years, I am thrilled to now be driving with him. He has the talent to be a V8 Supercars champion. Our collaboration will be strong and reinforce the team. Shane’s always been a strong competitor and a fighter, I respect him,” said Prémat.

The Frenchman has driven the endurance races with Volvo driver Scott McLaughlin for the two past seasons, securing strong results, and Triple Eight Race Engineering are hopeful on their new driver.

“We only ever go for the best enduro co-drivers that are available, so when Alex became available we jumped at the opportunity. We are very excited to have him as part of the team. Alex is well regarded around the world, and I don’t think we have seen his full potential in a V8 Supercar just yet,” said Mark Dutton, team manager.

The Volvo team has so far not communicated on a replacement driver for Prémat while David Wall is going to take one of the co-driver seats after being replaced by James Moffat as regular driver ahead of 2016.
