Jamie Whincup strikes back in race three

Jamie Whincup was back on top in the third V8 Supercars race at Albert Park, claiming a superior victory ahead of team mates Craig Lowndes and Shane van Gisbergen.

The Triple Eight Race Engineering duo started in another order, with Van Gisbergen claiming the lead from pole ahead of Lowndes and Whincup. But it was not long until Whincup made his way past Lowndes to second on lap one and then past Van Gisbergen into the lead on lap two.

A rain shower made things difficult for the drivers in the early stages.

Garth Tander was best of the rest for Holden Racing Team in fourth, with DJR Team Penske driver Fabian Coulthard becoming the top Ford driver in fifth position.

Ford’s Chaz Mostert, Holden’s James Courtney and Nissan’s Michael Caruso rounded off the top eight.

Scott McLaughlin was running in the top eight before being forced to retire due to engine issues.

The final race of the weekend starts at 12:20 local time tomorrow.
