Shane van Gisbergen wins final race in Melbourne

Shane van Gisbergen won the fourth and final V8 Supercars race of the F1 weekend at Albert Park in Melbourne, securing the overall victory of the race weekend as well with three wins in total.

Fabian Coulthard made sure to stop the Triple Eight Race Engineering dominance by claiming second position ahead of Craig Lowndes.

The DJR Team Penske driver made a strong start and was up into second place on the first lap. Race two winner, Jamie Whincup, found him self being pushed wide and dropped down to fourth position, only to retire on lap three due to a technical issue.

Coulthard kept piling the pressure on Van Gisbergen, but with the Holden driver starting to pull away towards the end of the race to win by 1.3 seconds.

Lowndes finished fourth ahead of Holden colleague James Courtney in fourth while Michael Caruso claimed Nissan’s best finish of the weekend in fifth position.

Garth Tander, Scott Pye and Rick Kelly rounded off the top eight while reigning champion Mark Winterbottom was unable to break into the top ten, finishing eleventh behind team mate Chaz Mostert in ninth and Tim Slade in tenth.
