Colin Turkington confident of gains later in the year with the BMR Subaru

2009 and 2014 champion Colin Turkington is comfortable with the progress of the Subaru Levorg ST at Donington Park, after qualifying 11th for the race and finishing in the top ten in race one, before a puncture and contact took him out of the second race.

Turkington sits 17th in the standings, with the tenth place finish from race one his best result of the season with the all-new Levorg, running with the new RML components and a brand new Boxer engine in the car with the least testing on the grid.

“We’re still on a big learning curve,” said Turkington after Donington Park to TouringCarTimes. “There are positives to take. I had a top ten finish in race one and qualified in the top third in the pack again, and we’ve come away having learned a lot more and we’re wiser on the car and set-up.

“However, it’s difficult to make progress when you’re not testing the car and you’re changing things on a race weekend, but we’re feeling a lot more confident in the car.”

There’s no major problem area on the car however, with the team expecting results will start to turn around from around the fourth meeting at Oulton Park.

“I don’t think there’s one big particular area where we’re behind,” said Turkington. “We’re just trying to improve the whole package and make everything that little bit better. We have some time to now go testing and turn up with a better package at Thruxton, so it’s going to be difficult to fight our way back into the championship, but we’re not focussed on that.”
