No significant compensation weight changes ahead of the Nordschleife

The fifth round of the 2016 World Touring Car Championship at the Nürburgring Nordschleife will see very few changes in compensation weight, with just Lada gaining 10kg ahead of the WTCC’s landmark event at the 25km circuit.

The FIA have calculated the weights based on the last three events, with Citroën again the reference car, carrying a full 80kg of compensation weight as they have done all season, having been the fastest car over the last three events in Slovakia, Hungary and Morocco.

Honda have again been assessed to have been 0.4 seconds off the pace on average, despite claiming pole position and a victory in Morocco, and will again be required to run with 40kg above the minimum base weight in the Civic WTCC, with the car running at 1,140kg.

With Hugo Valente picking up the fastest lap award in Morocco in his Lada Vesta, that’s worked against the Russian cars, with the manufacturer’s cars judged to also be 0.4 seconds from Citroën over a lap and so will carry 40kg, moving up from 30kg.

The Polestar Cyan Racing Volvo S60s struggled in Morocco and fell further behind in pace to be 1.1 seconds from Citroën. As a result, the Swedish cars will again carry no compensation weight. Neither will the privateer Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1s, which will play in the favour of the only German driver entered for the race, Sabine Schmitz, as the Nordschleife expert makes a one-off return in the championship driving for Münnich Motorsport.
