Timo Glock ecstatic with “dream race” in Spielberg

BMW Motorsport driver Timo Glock took this afternoon his first victory in the 2016 DTM season, and third of his career in the series. For the German driver, it was a perfect result with his new squad this year, Team RMG.

Glock started the race from the third spot on the grid, getting ahead of fellow BMW driver António Félix Da Costa at the start. On the second lap of the race, and with the DRS enabled, the German driver overtook Jamie Green to become the new race leader, a position he would hold until the chequered flag.

The result allows Team RMG, winner yesterday with Marco Wittmann, to jump into first place in the Teams’ table, with Glock now third in the Drivers’ standings with 37 points, only six behind leader Paul Di Resta.

Timo Glock said: “This race was a dream. It couldn’t have gone any better. I was able to pull away on the initial laps and then assert my lead after that. After the minor error in qualifying and the misfortune in Hockenheim, this was very satisfying, and BMW Team RMG had a perfect weekend with the wins for Marco and me. This makes me really happy. In general, it was a magnificent weekend for BMW.”

BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt praised his men for the result: “That was a very strong race by Timo. We had just the right strategy against the strong competition from Audi. It proved to be a very good decision to bring Timo in for an early pit stop. Mattias Ekström came on very strong again, but in the end it was enough. It was a perfect weekend for BMW Team RMG, getting the wins in both races. My congratulations to them on this outstanding achievement.”

BMW Motorsport now leads the Manufacturers’ championship with 203 points, 95 more than Audi Sport.
