Paul Di Resta still leader after the Red Bull Ring races

The second round of the 2016 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season at the Red Bull Ring delivered exciting races and action, in a weekend dominated by BMW Motorsport.

The Bavarian Manufacturer set the mark achieving the pole position on Saturday and both race wins. Audi Sport had again a strong car, but on track incidents affecting some of its key drivers prevented the Ingolstadt squad from having better results.

On the other hand, Mercedes AMG had a weekend to forget, with the six points scored by Paul Di Resta on Saturday’s race being the only fruits reaped at the Styrian track.

Still, the new regulations on performance weights and a tighter watch and penalization system of on track incidents have delivered four different winners in the four races so far, with the field being very levelled in terms of performance.

Paul Di Resta remains the Drivers’ standings leader after two rounds, with 43 points on his tally, six more than Audi Sport’s Edoardo Mortara. BMW’s Timo Glock is in third position with 37, the same as team-mate Maxime Martin, who is now the only driver to have scored points in all four races held so far.

BMW is the absolute dominator of the Teams’ table, with Team RMG, home to Marco Wittmann and Timo Glock, leading the classification with 72 points, one more than Team RBM, who looks after Maxime Martin’s and Tom Blomqvist’s M4 DTMs.

Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline, who manages the RS 5 DTMs of Mattias Ekström and Edoardo Mortara is in third place with 60 points. Fourth is Team HWA II, home of the Mercedes AMG C63 DTMs of Maximilian Götz and Paul Di Resta.

BMW Motorsport is the leader of the Manufacturers’ table with 203 points, 95 over Audi Sport and 110 more than Mercedes AMG.

The next round of the 2016 DTM season takes place at the Lausitzring, from the 3rd to the 5th of June.
