Nissan enters STCC with Flash Engineering

Nissan is back in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship for the first time since 2001. Flash Engineering will change from Saab to Nissan, starting in the races at Mantorp Park with one car for Linus Ohlsson.

”We are starting a cooperation with Nissan and that makes it possible for us to run a third car. I promised reserve driver Linus Ohlsson his own car and now I deliver,” said team owner Jan ”Flash” Nilsson to TT.

Nissan took part in the STCC from 1998 to 2001, claiming the 2000 title with Norwegian driver Tommy Rustad.

”It is very positive that we can welcome a third new manufacturer in the STCC. This does of course give us an increased belief in the future for coming seasons,” said Jonas Lundin, MD of STCC AB.

The team will still run two Saabs at Mantorp Park tomorrow for Björn Wirdheim, who makes his STCC debut, and Reuben Kressner. Wirdheim will switch to a Nissan for the coming race while Kressner will continue with a Saab.

Flash Engineering owner Nilsson has previously stated that he is positive on a potential TCR switch for the STCC in 2017 or 2018, a category where Nissan currently does not have a car available.

“I would like to cooperate with Nissan regarding a TCR car. But it has not been built yet, so the future will tell,” said “Flash”.
