Robert Dahlgren heads Volvo 1-2 to reclaim championship lead

Robert Dahlgren fought his way to win the second STCC race, held in wet conditions, at Mantorp Park ahead of Polestar Cyan Racing team mate Richard Göransson to reclaim the championship lead.

Dahlgren started seventh and made his way up through the field with Göransson right on his tail.

The duo caught Ford driver Rasmus Mårthen, who started from the reversed grid pole, and SEAT driver Daniel Haglöf, making it a four-car fight for the lead.

Mårthen made a mistake, allowing Haglöf alongside. But Haglöf braked too late, allowing Dahlgren, Mårthen and Göransson past.

Volvo driver Dahlgren passed both Mårthen and Haglöf to claim a lead that he kept to the end of the race.

Göransson was caught behind Mårthen for a couple of laps further and was not able to close the gap to his team mate, crossing the line three seconds behind.

Flash Engineering driver Björn Wirdheim was involved in the top fight in the first part of the race, but made two mistakes of which the last one meant a spin and dropping down the order. The former F1 test driver was able to recover to fourth postition ahead of Mårthen.

Linus Ohlsson started from the pits in his Nissan but was able to climb to sixth position, making his way past Dacia driver Mattias Andersson in the closing stages of the race.

SEAT Dealer Team PWR Racing’s Johan Kristoffersson had a tough race, spinning after contact with Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte while trying to go around the outside in the penultimate corner.

His race was ended a lap later, going off in the first corner and getting stuck in the gravel trap.

The results of the second race means that Dahlgren is back in the lead of the championship, seven points ahead of Göransson and 56 points ahead of Kristoffersson in third.

STCC continues at Anderstorp on June 19th.
