José Manuel Urcera takes Corboba win following penalty for Fineschi

Fiat’s José Manuel Urcera won the fourth round of the 2016 Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship at Cordoba, following a post-race penalty handed down to Peugeot driver Damian Fineschi.

Fineschi and Urcera started from the front row after the two drivers won a race each in the morning’s two qualifying race heats. Urcera held on to the lead at the start, while the safety car was out before the end of the first lap due to an off for Toyota driver Rafael Morgenstern.

Fineschi then took the lead from Urcera soon after the restart, with Urcera now being pursued by the Renault Fluence GT of Leonel Pernía.

Pernía overtook Urcera on lap nine and set about chasing down the leading Peugeot 408 of Fineschi. He eventually made his move on lap 23, but the two drivers made contact, with the damaged Renault of Pernía falling behind Urcera and the sister Peugeot of Facundo Chapur to fourth place by the finish.

Fineschi went on to take the chequered flag and win the race, but the stewards then handed him a three-place penalty for his part in the incident with Perníá, which promoted Urcera to first and so claims his first victory in the championship, with Chapur and Pernía completing the podium.

Emiliano Spataro would finish fifth for Renault, with Esteban Guerrieri the top-placed Toyota driver in sixth.

Chevrolet driver Agustín Canapino finished down in 11th position, but still leads the championship on 68 points thanks to a low scoring weekend for his main title challengers, with Renault driver Facundo Ardusso four points behind him in the standings, with his Renault team-mates Spataro and Pernía tied for third a further point behind.

The next round of the championship takes place at Termas de Río Hondo on June 19th.
