Zhuhai plays host to the second round of the CTCC this weekend

The China Touring Car Championship heads to the Zhuhai International Circuit this weekend, with the Changan Ford FRD Team aiming to continue showing the pace they displayed two weeks’ ago at Nanjing, where the Hong Kong-based squad locked out the top four spots on the grid in qualifying.

The factory Ford squad now lead the manufacturer’s and driver’s championship in the Super 2.0T class, with drivers Andy Yan and Rainey He jointly leading the standings on 28 points each. The team field an unchanged line-up this weekend with Martin Cao and the only international driver entered, Dan Wells.

Ford’s chief rival, Shanghai VW 333 Racing, took a victory last time out with their new Lamando with Jiang Tengyi at the wheel. The team have changed two of their four drivers this weekend, with former Kia driver Lo Ka Chun deputising for Zheng Zhen Dong, who has a clash with Porsche Carerra Cup Asia in Japan, and with Rodolfo Avila, a front-runner in last year’s TCR Asia series, taking over from Han Han who has clashing television commitments.

Teamwork Motorsport leads the independents’ trophy after a strong opening weekend, and will again field drivers Alex Hui and Sunny Wong against Star Racing and Linky Racing in the class.

The CTCC committee’s redrafted points system after Nanjing has seen a change at the front of the Super 1.6T Cup standings, with Martin Xie from Dongfeng Honda Racing and Jim Ka To and Jason Zhang from Kia Racing Team now all equally leading the standings on 34 points each. The two manufacturers will again be joined by Chinese manufacturer Haima Z1 Racing on the grid, while the Ruizi MZ Racing team’s Mazda 6s were forced to miss the opening round due to a customs issue, but will be aiming to be back on track this weekend.

Qualifying for the Super Cup 2.0T and Super Cup 1.6T claases will be held at 14:00 and 14:40 (local time) Saturday 4th June.
