Confident Jack Goff expects to find half a second

West Surrey Racing’s Jack Goff says he is confident he has another half a second in his pocket to find after overcoming a minor technical issue to wind up fifth in the first free practice session at Oulton Park.

Goff was briefly hobbled by a misfire caused by a fuel issue, but emerged for the final 15 minutes to lap consistently inside the top 10 and wind up just over 0.6s away from pace-setter Tom Ingram.

“We had a little technical problem but we still got out with 10 or 15 minutes to go, and were able to get a good base run in,” said Goff to TouringCarTimes.

“It felt OK; we’re not a million miles away. We can defnitely still find time in the car, a good half second, so I think we’re in pretty good shape.

“Obviously Ingram’s quick and he’s not got any ballast in either, so that will always be a quick car around here. But I think we can get somewhere near.”

Goff said he was aware of the expectation to perform in a car which has historically gone well around this circuit.

“The history of the BMW around here is strong, I think they have got nine wins around here in the past. So no pressure! Sam [Tordoff] got his first rear-wheel drive win around here too, so the pressure’s on me to go out there and deliver,” said Goff.

The second free practice session of the weekend comes up at 12:45pm BST.
