Jiang Tengyi takes his second win of 2016 as the rain hits Zhuhai

Shanghai VW 333 Racing driver Jiang Tengyi won his second reversed grid race of the year in the new Volkswagen Lamando, finishing ahead of the two independent Audi A3s of Linky Racing drivers Dennis Zhang and Julio Acosta as the rain started to fall.

At the start of the race, Changan Ford driver Dan Wells and the Volkswagen of Rodolfo Avila passed Zhang for the lead, while Jiang was already up to third after a chaotic start in the race.

Acosta was up to fourth on lap four, passing the Volkswagen of Wang Rue, while the sister Volkswagen of Lo Ka Chun was out of the race with a mechanical issue.

As the rain started to fall heavily on lap four, both Wells and Avila spun out of the race a lap later, with many drivers caught out by the treacherous conditions.

The officials chose to suspend the race on lap six, after just under ten minutes of racing, with Tengyi declared as the race winner ahead of Zhang and Acosta, with Martin Cao the best-placed of the Changan Ford Focuses in fourth.

In the Super Cup 1.6T class race, Honda scored a double during the weekend with Martin Xie winning Race 2 just under a second ahead of the Kia K3 of Jim Ka To, with Xie passing the early race leader Leo Yi’s Kia on his way to victory.

Jiang Tengyi now leads the Super Cup 2.0T drivers’ standings on 53 points, with Zhuhai Race 1 winner Alex Hui second in the championship on 39 points, with Changan Ford’s best placed man Andy Yan fourth in the standings on 32.

In Super Cup 1.6T, Jason Zhang leads the standings for Kia on 65 points, just one ahead of Dongfeng Honda driver Martin Xie.

The next round of the championship takes place on June 19th at the Shanghai International Circuit.
