Rainy Anderstorp next up for STCC

Anderstorp is next up for the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship field where, as per tradition, rain is forecast.

The Polestar Cyan Racing duo of Robert Dahlgren and Richard Göransson are on top of the drivers’ championship going into Anderstorp, with Dahlgren holding a seven-point lead over his team-mate.

”The fight with your team-mate is always the toughest. But I have a good cooperation with Richard and our main goal is to secure the titles together, we have tough competitors that are closing in as well. I am very much pleased with the season start so far and my goal is no doubt to continue the flow this weekend,” said Dahlgren.

The Volvo duo has dominated the first two race weekends, but the last race at Mantorp Park saw the SEAT drivers moving closer. Johan Kristoffersson and Daniel Haglöf claimed one podium each and the team has been in the wind tunnel, meaning a reduction of 30kg in base weight for Anderstorp.

SEAT Dealer Team PWR Racing’s third driver Emma Kimiläinen is also expected to be back on track at Anderstorp. The Finn missed the previous race at Mantorp Park due to extensive damage sustained from two crashes in the season opener at Skovde to her SEAT León.

Mattias Andersson is fifth in the championship ahead of Anderstorp and the Dacia Dealer Team driver will celebrate his 200th STCC race, 31 races from Jan ”Flash” Nilsson who tops the overall list on 231 STCC races.

”If I’m to pass Flash, then I need to drive a couple of more seasons. Right now, I have no plans to quit. I like competing, racing is my life. We are out for revenge at Anderstorp, I want to find the speed again after the mediocre weekend at Mantorp and regain third in the championship,” said Andersson.

Another team with ambitions for the top is Flash Engineering, fielding three cars again at Anderstorp for Björn Wirdheim, who made an impressive STCC debut at Mantorp, Linus Ohlsson and Reuben Kressner.

News for the weekend at Anderstorp is that Wirdheim will join Ohlsson in driving a Nissan, leaving Kressner in the lone Saab for the remainder of the season.

Rain is expected for Anderstorp as is typically the case, adding even more excitement to the race weekend that starts on Saturday with testing and qualifying.
