Sunny Wong claims first pole position at Shanghai for Teamwork

Sunny Wong has claimed his first China Touring Car Championship pole position in the Teamwork Motorsport Citroën C-Elysée, outpacing the Changan Fords of Martin Cao and Rainey He in the Super Cup 2.0T class.

Although Wong had good pace, his team-mate and Zhuhai race winner Alex Hui qualified down in eight position.

Closest to the leading trio was the Volkswagen Lamando of Zhang Zhen Dong, with Zhang Da Sheng fifth fastest, taking over from Dan Wells this weekend at the Changan Ford FRD Team.

Xu Jia was the best placed of the Linky Racing Audi A3s in sixth, with team-mate Dennis Zhang ninth.

Behind Zhang’s Volkswagen, the other drivers for Shangahi VW 333 Racing struggled, with Wang Rue tenth, and Rodolfo Avila and Jiang Tengyi failing to set times.

In the Super Cup 1.6T class session, DOngfeng Honda Racing Team led a 1-2-3, with Martin Xie leading Zou Si Rui and Henry Ho, ahead of the four Kias with Leo Yi Hong Li the leading driver.

The first Super Cup 1.6T race takes place at 9:35 CST on Sunday, with the 2.0T race at 9:00 CST.
