Zhang Da Sheng leads another Ford 1-2-3, scoring his first win

Zhang Da Sheng followed up Changan Ford FRD team-mate Martin Cao’s first career victory with one of his own in Race 2 in Shanghai, also leading a Ford 1-2-3 ahead of Rainey He and Andy Yan.

Zhang, taking over from Dan Wells at the team this weekend, powered to victory, passing the Volkswagen Lamandos of Rodolfo Avila and Zheng Zhen Dong which had started at the front thanks to the reversed grid.

Zhang overtook Zheng on the second lap, while Avila retired with engine trouble, handing the Ford driver the lead, with Zheng also passed by the two Fords of Rainey and Yan before the end of the race.

Race 1 winner Martin Cao briefly was up to third, with Ford set to score a 1-2-3-4, but fell behind team-mate Yan and the Volkswagen of Zheng between laps five and six.

In the 1.6T class race, Martin Xie took his fourth win of the season for the Dongfeng Honda Racing Team, leading Honda team-mates Zou Si Rui and Henry Ho, who battled against each other during the early stages of the race.

The two Kias of Larry Lin and Jim Ka To collided on lap three, retiring from the race, leaving Jason Zhang to finish as the best-placed of the South Korean manufacturer in fourth, while only seven cars made the finish.

Martin Xie leads the Super Cup 1.6T championship by ten points over Jason Zhang, while Rainey He leads the 2.0T standings, just three points clear of Ford team-mate Martin Cao, with Teamwork Citroën driver Alex Hui third, just a half a point further behind.

The next round of the championship takes place in South Korea on July 10th.
