Mike Rockenfeller gets grid penalty for Zandvoort

Audi Team Phoenix’s Mike Rockenfeller will take a three-place grid penalty for the first DTM race at Zandvoort, after the stewards penalised him for a clash with team-mate Timo Scheider at the Norisring today.

Rockenfeller was battling for a points position with Scheider and BMW’s Martin Tomczyk in the final stages of the second race when he made contact with the Audi at Dudzenteich-Kehre.

Scheider spun down to last place after the incident, while Rockenfeller retired in the pits.

The stewards also investigated a clash between Mercedes Team HWA’s Daniel Juncadella and BMW Team Schnitzer’s Antonio Felix Da Costa, which triggered the second safety car of the day.

The move by Juncadella on Da Costa put both cars out of the race, but no blame was attributed and no further action was taken.

Rockenfeller, Da Costa, Juncadella, Audi Team Rosberg’s Adrien Tambay and Mercedes Team ART’s Gary Paffett were all later excluded from the results. All four were classified after their retirements, but were excluded for not attending the scrutineering area to be weighed.
