Adam Morgan tops second day of Dunlop tyre test at Snetterton

Adam Morgan headed the field on the second day of the mid-season Dunlop tyre test at Snetterton, but Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram’s best lap from Wednesday remained the benchmark time.

Morgan led the way in the morning session in his Mercedes A-Class with a time of 1.56.629, just under 0.7s slower than Ingram’s best time from Wednesday, and this time wasn’t beaten in the three hours of afternoon running.

Team BKR’s Aron Smith was second overall in his Volkswagen CC ahead of Eurotech Racing’s Dan Lloyd, with the same pair finishing first and second in the afternoon running.

Ingram was fourth ahead of Motorbase Performance’s Andrew Jordan, with Lloyd’s team-mate Jeff Smith, Aiden Moffat, Colin Turkington, Rob Austin and Ash Sutton rounding out the combined best top 10 times of the day. The majority of the best times were set in the morning session, run between 9am and midday.

It was a trying test for Team BMR’s Jason Plato, who only managed 13 laps in the morning and two in the afternoon due to technical issues with his Subaru Levorg GT.

Also taking part on day two were Volkswagen Racing Cup leader Bobby Thompson in the Power Maxed Racing Chevrolet Cruze; Renault Clio Cup UK championship leader Ant Whorton-Eales in the Team Hard Toyota Avensis and British GT regular Dennis Strandberg in the Maximum Motorsport Ford Focus ST.

They finished in 19th, 23rd and 24th positions respectively in the morning session, and 18th, 16th and 23rd in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, Ingram led the way all day, setting a record lap in the morning in his Toyota Avensis and also topping the wet afternoon session.

Ingram’s time of 1:55.932 was just under the qualifying lap record of 1.56.047 set by Team BMR’s Colin Turkington in 2015 in his Volkswagen CC.

The times shown below are the combined best 10 times of the day, based on the morning and afternoon sessions.
