Brits get ready to impress at Korean round of the CTCC

An unprecedented number of British drivers will be taking part in the Super Cup 2.0T races this weekend at the Korean round of the China Touring Car Championship, and BTCC front-runner Adam Morgan and former Formula Renault UK driver Dan Wells join the field of Chinese, Hong Kong and Macanese drivers for the fourth round of the season.

In Super Cup 2.0T, the Changan Ford FRD Team lead both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ championships, with Rainey He three points ahead of team-mate Martin Cao, with the privateer Teamwork Citroën of Alex Hui the blue oval drivers’ closed threat, a further 0.5 point behind.

After missing the last round as international drivers are only able to compete in a proportion of events, British driver Dan Wells returns behind the wheel of one of the Ford Focuses, taking over from Zhang De Sheng.

Adam Morgan, two times a race winner this season in the British Touring Car Championship, will jump aboard Han Han’s Volkswagen Lamando, a variation of the Jetta, which is new to this season, while Volkswagen look to close up on Ford in the manufacturers’ championship.

For his home race, Roelof Bruins will make his CTCC debut for Linky Racing in their Audi A3 2.0T. The South Korean put on a dominant display earlier in the year at the opening round of the TCR Asia Series while driving for Viper Niza Racing in their SEAT León Cup Racer.

In the Super Cup 1.6T class, Kia will be hoping to have the home advantage, and with Haima Z1 Racing and Ruizi MZ Racing opting to skip the event, Kia’s only competition will come from the Dongfeng Honda Racing Team, meaning the class is reduced to seven cars this weekend, with the CTCC deciding to merge the qualifying session between the two classes.

Kia however trail Honda in the drivers’ standings, with Honda’s Martin Xie ten points ahead of Kia’s Jason Zhang, while the South Korean marque enjoys a 24-point lead in the manufacturer standings.

Qualifying takes place at 9:20 local time on Saturday, with the two classes’ Race 1s from 16:05 in the afternoon, with Race 2s from 14:40 on Sunday.
