Adam Morgan takes pole position on his CTCC debut in Korea

Adam Morgan has claimed pole position on his China Touring Car Championship debut in Korea, setting the fastest time by two-tenths of a second in his Shanghai VW 333 Racing Volkswagen Lamando ahead of the Teamwork Motorsport Citroën C-Elysée of Alex Hui.

Wang Rue was next up in third, the next best-placed of the Volkswagens in third ahead of team-mate Jiang Tengyi, while Dan Wells was the fastest of the Changan Ford FRD drivers, putting the Ford Focus fifth on the grid, leading team-mates and championship contenders Martin Cao and Rainey He.

David Zhu was eighth fastest in the BAIC Senova D60, while Leo Yi Hong Li claimed pole position in the Super Cup 1.6T class, setting the nine fastest overall time in the combined qualifying session in his Kia K3 1.6T, securing pole for the Korean manufacturer at home.

Zhang Zhen Dong completed the top ten for Volkswagen.

The reversed grid will apply to Race 1 for the 1.6T class race, and with just seven cars competing this weekend, the reversal has been ruled as only applicable to the top four rather than the top ten, meaning Dongfeng Honda Racing Team’s Henry Ho will start from pole for the race at 16:40 local time, following on from 2.0T’s Race 1 with the grid formed conventionally, with Morgan starting from pole at 16:05.
