Richard Göransson wins again in chaotic race as only five cars finish

Richard Göransson completed a perfect STCC weekend at Falkenberg by following up the win in race one with a win in race two. But it was a decimated field as the first part of the reversed grid race eliminated more than half of the field, seeing only five cars taking the chequered flag.

Göransson started tenth but started to make his way up through the field early on. The Volvo driver made a spectacular move on the outside of Björn Wirdheim and Emma Kimiläinen.

It was not long after that when Göransson made his move on Dacia Dealer Team driver Mattias Andersson for the lead to ultimately win by more than eight seconds.

Andersson kept second place over the finish line, despite pressure from Brovallen Design driver Rasmus Mårthen towards the end of the race.

Kimiläinen was once again in the crosshair of the stewards, receiving a drive through penalty for pushing Wirdheim off track.

The chaos continued for the SEAT Dealer Team PWR Racing driver who one corner later tapped team mate Johan Kristoffersson into a spin. Kimiläinen retired in the pits not long after.

Kristoffersson was able to continue, albeit one lap down after being forced to pit for a tyre change but finished fifth nonetheless in the decimated field. The nightmare race for the SEAT team involved Daniel Haglöf as well who retired from damage sustained in the chaotic opening part of the race.

Things were equally pitch black for former championship leader and Volvo driver Robert Dahlgren who once again retired. Dahlgren fought hard in the opening laps, getting ahead of Göransson at one stage only to suffer a puncture and later retiring in the gravel trap after a suspension failure.

A double zero for Dahlgren has dropped him to a full 47 points behind Polestar Cyan Racing team mate Göransson, despite leading the championship by 10 points coming in to the weekend.

Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte secured his best result of the season in fourth position, close to 20 seconds behind his team mate and race winner Göransson.

STCC heads into the summer break, resuming action at Karlskoga on August 14th.
