Sam Tordoff confident of maintaining advantage

Sam Tordoff says he is confident about his chances of maintaining his lead in the BTCC standings when racing resumes this weekend at Snetterton.

The West Surrey Racing driver heads into the sixth meeting of the year holding a slender twelve point lead over team-mate Rob Collard in the standings, having picked up more podium finishes than any of his rivals during the first half of the year.

The downside to that success is that the 27-year-old will carry maximum ballast into the weekend at the wheel of his BMW 125i M Sport but he remains optimistic about his chances at the circuit where he secured his first win in the series during his time with MG.

“I can’t wait to resume the battle for the title,” he said. “Since the last round at Croft we’ve had two days of testing at Snetterton and I’ve also driven the BMW at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, plus we’ve spent some time at WSR going through data to try and make the car even more consistent over the second half of the season.

“Snetterton is a special circuit for me as it’s where I took my first pole and win in the BTCC. It’s my aim to maximise all the strengths of the BMW and score as many points as possible this weekend. It will be tough as long as I’m carrying 75kg, but ballast changes throughout race day.

“I’m feeling pretty confident.”
