Adam Morgan heads second practice session at Snetterton

Ciceley Racing’s Adam Morgan continued his good form from the recent Dunlop tyre test by topping the second free practice session at Snetterton, heading Ash Sutton and Aron Smith.

Morgan, who topped the second day of the two-day test earlier this month, set a best time of 1.56.139 in his Mercedes A-Class to pip Triple Eight Racing’s Sutton by 0.232s and Team BKR’s Smith by 0.384.

Morgan’s time was also just over half a second faster than the benchmark time set by Team BMR’s Colin Turkington in the earlier session. He set his best time during a flurry of improvements during the final five minutes, with Mat Jackson, Sutton and Smith also taking turns at the top during the 40 minutes.

Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram was fourth ahead of Turkington, while championship leader Sam Tordoff continued to impress with maximum ballast in sixth in his West Surrey Racing BMW 125i M-Sport.

Aiden Moffat, Hunter Abbott, Gordon Shedden and Andrew Jordan rounded out the top 10, with fellow championship contenders Rob Collard and Matt Neal in 12th and 13th respectively.

Team Dynamics’ Shedden sat out the opening part of the session after his team changed his engine after first practice, and he was eventually able to complete seven laps.

Elsewhere, Speedworks Motorsport’s Matt Simpson stopped out on track after losing a wheel, while Welch Motorsport’s Dan Welch again failed to turn a wheel due to the clutch problem which also kept him out of first practice.

Next up for the BTCC is qualifying at 15:50 BST.
