Tom Coronel delighted with podium result in Argentina

Tom Coronel enjoyed another positive weekend at Termas de Río Hondo, Argentina, leaving South America with yet another outright podium result. The ROAL Motorsport driver stayed out of trouble after starting on the second row in the main race, which handed him second place after Honda’s Norbert Michelisz and Citroën’s Yvan Muller touched and went off.

“Eat my dust!,” said a delighted Coronel. “It was a good race. Everything was under control, the pace was there. I stayed stable for the first few laps, just trying to save the tyres and be clever, and it worked out very well. I had a very good car, I want to thank my engineer Pietro (Speronello). I am very happy with this second place.”

The Dutchman went on to tell the tale of his podium result: “The car felt very strong and I saw already in the opening race that my car was consistent. I knew there was a good chance for the the Main Race to score some points. In the first few laps I saw them (the Citroën drivers) fighting with (Honda’s Norbert) Michelisz. I knew López was going to try to win this race. I understand the state of mind of a racing driver racing in his home country so I knew it was going to be a hot fight.”

Bearing this in mind, Coronel tried to stay in touch, save the tyres and make sure he took advantage of any mistakes made by the drivers ahead: “I just stayed there, 20 metres back to keep my tyres right, and I saw some really good action, really good racing, I saw some touching, I was in the VIP row to see everything and it looked all nice. Somehow two of the drivers in front disappeared and I finished P2. It’s nice to be on the podium and to bring the trophy home.”

Argentina marks Coronel’s third outright podium of the year, after wins in Marrakech, Morocco, and Vila Real, Portugal.
