Björn Wirdheim: ”The win means so much for the team”

Björn Wirdheim claimed his first ever Scandinavian Touring Car Championship victory in the second race at Karlskoga, the first win for Flash Engineering since their return this season.

”This means so much for the team, I am incredibly happy for them. All the work they have put down to enable this, it’s awesome,” said Wirdheim.

The Saab driver started fifth on the reversed grid for the second race and managed to avoid the first corner chaos.

”I took it rather easy in the start as the guys ahead of me went three abreast, I took the inside line and was able to use that to my advantage,” said Wirdheim.

Wirdheim only had to overtake one driver in the form of Rasmus Mårthen. Once he had got past him, there was no stopping the former Jaguar F1 test driver who won the race by 16 seconds.

”It was quite easy to defend my lead and I had a comfortable race. This was a nice revenge from our qualifying result,” said Wirdheim.

The Flash Engineering driver has climbed to fourth in the championship, two points ahead of SEAT driver Daniel Haglöf and 45 points behind Johan Kristoffersson in third.
