Sunny Wong heads Teamwork Motorsport 1-2 in Guangdong qualifying

Sunny Wong claimed pole position in the Chinese Touring Car Championship qualifying at Guangdong, with team-mate Alex Hui making it a Teamwork Motorsport 1-2.

CTCC newcomer and former STCC driver Tomas Engström claimed a strong third on the grid in his Haima M6 2.0T, close to four tenths from pole and just 0.093 seconds from second place.

David Zhu made it two Chinese manufacturers in the top four, driving a Baic Senova D60 CC, while the top Shanghai VW 333 Racing driver came in the form of Wang Rue in fifth position, just over one second from pole.

The Ford FRD Team, running in the top of the championship, struggled with Rainey He only managing tenth position.

In the Super Cup 1.6T class, Leo Yi’s pole was ahead of his Kia team-mate Larry Lin, with the fastest of the Hondas Zou Si Rui third fastest, just over three-tenths down.

Jim Ka To was fourth for Kia, with Jason Zhang, second in the championship, fifth in his Kia K3 with championship leader Martin Xie down in eighth for the Dongfeng Honda Racing Team.

The first round for the CTCC Super Cup 2.0T class will be scheduled at 8:50 CST on Sunday with the first 1.6T race at 9:25.
