100th V8 Supercars win for Jamie Whincup

Jamie Whincup claimed his 100th V8 Supercars victory in the final race of the weekend at Sydney Motorsport Park. The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver headed team-mate Craig Lowndes to another 1-2 for the team and the seventh straight victory.

Chaz Mostert had pole position, just as yesterday, but was passed by Lowndes in the first corner.

The Prodrive Racing Australia driver was later passed by Whincup as well, finishing the race in third position, eight seconds from race-winner Whincup.

Lowndes headed the field early on but was passed by Whincup during the pitstop.

DJR Team Penske driver Fabian Coulthard crossed the line in fourth position with Shane van Gisbergen claimed fifth.

Volvo driver Scott McLaughlin finished the race in sixth position after a tough fight with team-mate James Moffat. The two traded paint while battling, only for Moffat to receive a drive-through penalty for tapping Van Gisbergen into a spin. The penalty saw Moffat dropping from fifth to finish 18th.

The Holden Racing Team duo of Garth Tander and James Courtney rounded off the top eight.

Reigning champion Mark Winterbottom had yet another tough race to finish 14th.

Whincup heads the drivers’ championship on 2109 points, with team-mate Van Gisbergen in second position, 137 points behind.

V8 Supercars continues on September 18th at Sandown.
