Motorbase provisionally clinches maiden BTCC title

Motorbase Performance has provisionally secured a first title in the BTCC after taking an unassailable lead in the Independent Teams’ Championship during the eighth meeting of the year at Rockingham.

An indie win apiece for Mat Jackson and Andrew Jordan over the course of the weekend allowed the Ford team to move 136 points clear of Speedworks with six races, and 120 points, still to play for.

Under championship regulations, and unlike the main Teams’ Championship, only the best placed car scores towards the Independents points.

The double success at Rockingham means Motorbase has now taken Independent honours in half of the 24 races run so far this season, whilst Jordan and Jackson sit first and second in in the Independents’ drivers championship.

The pair also took the team to ten overall podiums this season having both picked up a second place finish during the Northamptonshire race weekend.

“What a great weekend!” team manager Oly Collins said. “Mat, Andrew and the whole team were superb throughout. It’s been a very rewarding weekend strengthening Motorbase as a serious contender against the Manufacturer teams, and to have as good as secured our first ever BTCC title in the Independent Teams’ Championship with two weekends still to go is a fantastic testament to the talent and hard work of the team.

“We’ve been on the pace in every session, in wet and dry conditions and we’re now really looking forward to an exciting climax to the season at last two race meetings.”
