TCR Asia cancels Zhejiang round and adds Malaysia F1 round to its calendar instead

The TCR Asia series has cancelled the penultimate round of their 2016 season at the Zhejiang circuit in China, and will instead join the field of the TCR International Series for the two races during the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend on October 2nd.

“Unfortunately, the Zhejiang Circuit despite all assurances throughout the year, has suffered a setback with their completion date and will not be ready for action until later in the season,” said TCR Asia CEO David Sonenscher.

“The perfect venue for the series to find a replacement date was Sepang, as it gave us an opportunity to combine both the Asian and International Series once more, and as a venue, many of the TCR Asia Series teams are based in Sepang, so it was the perfect choice.”

The championship is currently led by Engstler Motorsport’s Andy Yan, with Teamwork Motorsport’s Kevin Tse his closest challenger. The TCR Asia series’ final two rounds are therefore shared with the International Series, with the season finale taking place in Macau on November 18th.
