Stat Attack: BTCC Rounds 22-24, Rockingham

The battle to secure the 2016 British Touring Car Championship title heads for Silverstone this weekend for the penultimate meeting of the year.

Ahead of the weekend, it’s time to take a look back at the main stats that emerged from the Rockingham meeting

Qualifying:

• Gordon Shedden became the third driver this season to secure a second pole position.

• Tom Ingram retained his position as best qualifier with an average of 4.5 ahead of Ash Sutton (6.0) and Colin Turkington (6.12).

• Mat Jackson, Martin Depper, Matt Simpson and Stewart Lines enjoyed their best qualifying results of the year.

• Sam Tordoff, Jack Goff and Rob Collard suffered their worst qualifying results of the year.

Races:

• Gordon Shedden became the fourth driver to win three races this season.

• Shedden moved onto 23 wins in NGTC machinery (4 behind Jason Plato) and now has 44 career victories.

• Shedden secured the 45th fastest lap of his BTCC career

• Aron Smith became the first driver this season to win a race in a GPRM-spec car – Ash Sutton’s MG is running a mix of GPRM and RML parts.

• Smith became the record-breaking twelfth winner of the season

• Rob Collard moved ahead of team-mate Jack Goff to hold the most fastest laps, with a fourth of the season. Collard also secured the 15th fastest lap of his BTCC career.

• Mat Jackson moved level with team-mate Andrew Jordan in terms of Independents podiums with his 15th of the season.

• Andrew Jordan and Matt Neal continue to top the list of laps completed, having missed just one of the 429 laps run so far this year.

• Mat Jackson remains out front in terms of laps led on 85, 30 clear of Jason Plato.

• Sam Tordoff and Gordon Shedden both passed 50 laps led this season.

• Aron Smith led his first laps of the season.

• Four points across the weekend mean Gordon Shedden has now scored more bonus points (10) than anyone else.

• Rob Austin, Jeff Smith and Mark Howard became the third, fourth and fifth drivers to be hit a third strike this season, and were docked three points as a result – leaving Howard on a score of -3.

• Martin Depper competed in his 100th BTCC race, whilst Dave Newsham raced in his 150th.

• Dave Newsham passed 600 career points, Adam Morgan passed 900 career points and Rob Collard passed 2,000 career points.
