FRD Motorsport pleased with Ford Focus TCR potential

The new Ford Focus TCR, built by FRD Motorsport, has made its debut in racing conditions at Singapore last weekend. The car is a completely new machine compared with the older Ford Focus ST developed by Onyx Engineering, which had numerous issues and only made a few appearances in the championship before being withdrawn after Macau 2015.

FRD President Kenneth Ma is happy with the potential of the car, as well as its performances, considering the Focus TCR is completely new: “We are pleased with the results”, said Ma. “The car successfully completed both races and all the sessions while showing constant improvement. All the testing in the world would not simulate true racing conditions and, in this respect, I think our car passed with flying colours.”

Of course the project is still in its early days and it will take more work and time to make the Focus TCR a fully competitive car: “Finishing close to the points position on our debut event showed that the FRD Ford Focus TCR has great potential. Our race pace was encouraging, but most importantly we identified areas in need of improvement, so we will continue to work hard these coming days to refine our car for Sepang and for our customers.”

The Ford Focus TCR was driven by Martin Cao at Singapore.
