Marco Wittmann and Dani Juncadella excluded from the Hungaroring

Mercedes AMG’s Daniel Juncadella and BMW’s Marco Wittmann have both been excluded from today’s results at the Hungaroring due to technical infringements.

Both the Mercedes AMG C63 DTM number 12 and the BMW M4 DTM number 11 were found in breach of article 3.22.4 of the Technical Regulations, with the skid-pads located below the car were found to be of insufficient thickness.

Juncadella and Wittmann had finished in third and fourth places respectively, and their exclusion moves all other drivers up in the race classification. As a result, BMW’s Martin Tomczyk and Mercedes AMG’s Robert Wickens take now the final two points scoring positions.

Both Juncadella and Wittmann have a right to appeal de decision within the next hour.

The ramifications are significant for Wittmann, who had increased his championship lead over Edoardo Mortara after the Audi driver’s DNF, but could now head to Hockenheim wil a more assailable 14-point lead.
