Sam Tordoff: “It’s already mission accomplished”

Championship leader Sam Tordoff insists he has already hit all of the targets he set himself for the 2016 season as he seeks to wrap up a maiden championship title this weekend at Brands Hatch.

The WSR driver takes an eleven point lead into Finals Day after an impressive season that has seen him take to the podium nine times – including two wins.

This weekend marks the first time that Tordoff has entered the final round of the year in contention for the title, with the Yorkshireman being one of eight drivers who could mathematically be crowned champion.

Having insisted he doesn’t feel under any pressure going into the weekend, Tordoff said his aim for the weekend was to simply enjoy himself on track and see what the end result was – although he did concede there would be disappointment if he couldn’t convert his advantage.

“I had a set of targets for the season and we’ve surpassed all of them, so whatever happens now is a bonus,” he said. “Having said that, I’ve led the championship for half the season so of course it would be a disappointment not to convert it into a title, both for myself and WSR, who have worked incredibly hard to give me a fantastic BMW.

“Carrying maximum ballast won’t help matters, but it’s been the same for the past few rounds and exactly the same thing has been at stake, so we’re pretty used to it now as a team. I’m just going to go out there and enjoy the weekend and we’ll see what happens.

“It’s my favourite circuit anyway and I’ve finished second there three times, so I’ll enjoy it, whatever the outcome.”
