Championship contenders mostly on soft tyres for Race 2 at Brands

The drivers’ soft tyre choices for the Brands Hatch season finale are already known, with six of the eight championship contenders required to run the Dunlop Sport Maxx soft tyre in Race 2 on Sunday.

With the drivers only able to choose each of the day’s three races at maximum of three times over the course of the nine races where the option tyre is in play (with no options used at Thruxton), 29 of the 31 runners on Sunday’s tyre choices are already known.

The only unknowns are Power Maxed Racing’s Kelvin Fletcher and Team Hard’s Tony Gilham, as both have not competed in every race of the season. Their choices will be confirmed at 10am on Sunday morning.

Of the championship contenders, the West Surrey Racing BMW of Sam Tordoff, the two Team Dynamics Hondas of Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden, the Team BMR Subarus of Colin Turkington and Jason Plato as well as the Motorbase Ford of Andrew Jordan will all be required to run the soft tyre in the second race of the day.

Meanwhile, West Surrey Racing’s Rob Collard and Motorbase’s Mat Jackson both have the soft tyre at their disposal for the final race of the day, which could prove to be a critical tactical decision.
