‘Frustrated’ Gianni Morbidelli unhappy despite Sepang podium

Gianni Morbidelli had a troubled season so far, and the WestCoast Racing driver hasn’t won a race since Estoril earlier this year. Despite finishing third in today’s race at Sepang, Malaysia, the Italian wasn’t smiling on the podium, and confirmed he is not enjoying his time behind the wheel at the moment.

“I know somebody noticed I was the only driver who wasn’t smiling on the podium”, said the former Grand Prix driver. “The thing is I have been struggling with the power steering since the beginning of the year, but I have to say that it is not the fault of the WestCoast team.”

The power steering issues, which have plagued the Italian for the entire year, mean he goes as far as being happy the end of the season is approaching: “I feel really sorry for them and I’m really frustrated. I’m just happy we are nearly at the end of the season, to be honest. When you have to think about the steering instead of driving, this does not help your performance at all.”

Morbidelli is still the top-placed Honda driver in the championship, as he is sixth with 174 points to his name.
