Rob Huff scores BAIC Senova’s first pole position at Guizhou

Rob Huff has taken pole position for the BAIC Senova team in their Saab-based D60, outqualifying fellow international wild card and CTCC debutant Alex Fontana in the new Kia K3 2.0T by almost three-tenths of a second.

The Briton is making his second appearance in the China Touring Car Championship in the Super Cup 2.0T class, after joining the fold at Shanghai when the championship supported the WTCC.

The best-placed of the regulars was Changan Ford FRD Team driver Andy Yan, with the former champion and 2016 TCR Asia series champion elect qualifying third, nearly a second behind in the Ford Focus.

Martin Cao was fourth fastest, also for Ford, while BTCC regular Adam Morgan qualified in fifth position, the fastest driver for the Shanghai VW 333 Racing Volkswagen Lamando GTS.

Championship leader Zhang Zhen Dong was eighth fastest, while Rainey He, second in the standings, was seventh quickest, 1.6 seconds from Huff’s pace.

Sunny Wong was the best-placed of Teamwork’s Citroëns, qualifying in ninth position just ahead of Tomas Engström, the fastest of the Haima M6s.

The first race takes place at 8:50 CST on Sunday.
