Jamie Whincup wins in another Triple Eight 1-2 at Pukekohe

Jamie Whincup got revenge in the final race of the weekend at Pukekohe to win by close to nine seconds over his team-mate, whom he clashed with and was penalised for in the previous race, Shane van Gisbergen.

The six-time champion headed the field from lights-to-flag and an early attempt from Van Gisbergen to put pressure on him faded as the race progressed.

Scott McLaughlin came home in third position for Garry Rogers Motorsport, reducing the gap to Craig Lowndes, who finished sixth, to 21 points in the fight for third in the drivers’ championship.

McLaughlin was pressured by Prodrive Racing Australia driver Chaz Mostert, who was right behind the Volvo driver at the finishing line to claim fourth ahead of team-mate and winner of the previous race Mark Winterbottom.

Garth Tander and Fabian Coulthard rounded off the top eight for Holden Racing Team and DJR Team Penske respectively.

Van Gisbergen heads to the season finale in Sydney with a strong 191-point lead over his team-mate Whincup.
