Neric Wei Chaoyin joins list of drivers declassified from TCR for tyre brand changes

Son Veng Motorsport driver Neric Wei Chaoyin has been removed from the classification of TCR drivers at the Guia Race of Macau, after the Chinese driver was discovered to have run Yokohama tyres in Free Practice 1.

Wei is the fourth of the 30 TCR-specification drivers entered for the event who are not included in the TCR International Series’ classifications as they’re not running to the series rulebook.

The Asia Racing Team, which have not competed in the TCR International or Asia Series this season were already not going to be counted. The team ran both Yokohama and Michelin rubber in practice for driver Edgar Lau.

Lau, and now Wei, will both carry an additional 20kg of ballast as a result of running tyres outside of the commercial agreement, along with Team TRC driver James Tang, whose car is exclusively running Yokohama tyres as part of a commercial agreement with the Japanese brand.

The other TCR-spec car not classified is the FRD Team Ford Focus TCR of Kenneth Ma, which only chose to go back to entering their TCR-spec car at the last minute after a change in plan to run the CTCC-spec Ford Focus ahead of the weekend.
