John Filippi will leave Campos Racing, set for Citroën switch

French driver John Filippi is set to depart Campos Racing, with the 21-year-old’s most likely destination Sébastien Loeb Racing for 2017.

The Corsican driver will be competing in his fourth full season in the WTCC, and his move is likely to mean one less Chevrolet on the grid, with Münnich Motorsport having also made the switch to Citroën with Rob Huff confirmed as their driver earlier last month.

Sébastien Loeb Racing have already confirmed that Tom Chilton will be remaining with them for 2017, with Moroccan driver Mehdi Bennani also set to remain for a third year with the squad after a successful 2016, taking two victories and challenging for second in the standings during the early part of the season.

Filippi shared on social media that he has signed a deal with a new team earlier today, just days after confirming he’ll remain in the championship.

TouringCarTimes understands that Filippi has signed to join SLR with continued backing from France-based auto parts company Oscaro. SLR could field more cars yet, with more ex-factory Citroën C-Elysée WTCCs still available for privateers.
