FRD Motorsports planning two-car programme in TCR Asia

After several months of development, FRD Motorsports are ready to take on the challenge of a full TCR Asia season this year. The Hong Kong-based outfit, which boasts successful outings in the China Touring Car Championship, has been developing the Ford Focus TCR for around 18 months.

FRD are planning to have a car taking part in the full season, with a second Focus TCR expected to join the field at Zhuhai, China, at the second event of the season.

“Currently the second car is undergoing TCR Balance of Performance [BoP] testing at Adria in Europe”, said team boss Kenneth Ma. “We hope to have it back ahead of the second round of the season.”

Ma, who is determined to have a “star driver” in the first car, has high ambitions for the Ford Focus TCR after several months of intense development.

“There have been a number of modifications to the original car to make it more consistent and reliable, because it was clear the car had the pace. It just needed some more development time to improve the reliability, so we’re confident that we’ll now be able to put the Focus right in amongst the series front-runners.”
After some appearances in a competitive environment, including selected TCR International Series events, TCR Asia will be the first full season contested by the American car.
