Perfect weekend for Shane van Gisbergen despite issues

Shane van Gisbergen had a perfect Supercars season start in Adelaide with two pole positions and two victories, despite having issues with the car.

“We had big vibrations so it was a bit of a struggle. The car is still fast, it doesn’t cost us any time, but it’s very uncomfortable knowing there’s something not right with the car,” said van Gisbergen to supercars.com.

The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver had a new chassis for the season opener, with the vibration issues arising in testing.

“We had some noise in the test day we couldn’t put our finger on and had hoped we’d fixed it coming here this weekend,” said team manager Mark Dutton.

“But it developed some other problems like vibrations and that was from rollout on Friday. To put all that aside and to work through, it’s a full credit to Shane, Shippy (McPherson) and all the crew on that car.”

Van Gisbergen came out of the season start with a 51-point lead of the drivers’ championship.

Next up for the Supercars drivers is the non-championship round with the Australian Formula 1 GP in Melbourne on March 25-26th.
