Warren Scott stands down from BTCC drive

Team BMR boss Warren Scott has announced that he will stand down from his driver role in the BTCC to compete in the British Rallycross Championship this season.

Scott has been part of the grid since debuting with a SEAT Leon back in 2013, with the team around him having grown from a single car outfit to the multi-car, works-backed Subaru squad that is set to run four cars once again this year.

Having had to juggle the role of team principal and driver for three seasons, Scott has now decided the time has come to focus on his role as head of the team, leading to him electing not to compete on the touring car grid.

Instead, the 45-year-old will get his racing fix in British Rallycross at the wheel of an ex-Liam Doran Citroen DS3 being run by championship winning outfit LD Motorsport.

No announcement has yet been made over who will replace Scott in the BMR line-up, with the vacant Subaru Levorg being the only seat still available on the 2017 grid.

“Although I had a very strong team behind me in the BTCC, I found it increasingly difficult to concentrate on my own racing when I had to also focus on the team’s performance and results as a whole,” he said. “Having numerous cars on the grid meant that I could never fully centre my attention on my own race as there was always something going on.

“The BTCC is so competitive, often the top twenty are covered by just a second and there is no room for error, you must be 100% focused, 100% of the time.

“For the 2017 season, I will be competing in the British Rallycross Championship, but I will however remain 100% hands on as Team Principal and am fully committed to Team BMR and Subaru in the BTCC and look forward to the championship fight this year.”
