Engstler VWs promoted to front row following R Engineering exclusion

The two Engstler Motorsport Volkswagen Golfs of Kantadhee Kusiri and Diego Moran will start from the front row for today’s first TCR Asia Series race of 2017 at Sepang, following the exclusion of the two R Engineering Hondas of Lai Wee Sing and Abdul Kaathir.

Kusiri had already secured pole position by almost a second over Lai Wee Sing’s Honda Civic TCR, while Ecuadorian driver Moran had qualified in third, just ahead of the second Honda of Kaathir’s.

However, a regulation infringement during parc ferme meant all times from the pair of R Engineering Hondas were wiped out, which has resulted in the top three becoming an all Volkswagen affair, with Team Thailand’s Tin Sritrai now promoted to third position.

Audi Hong Kong’s Jasper Thong’s RS 3 LMS will start from fourth ahead of Eric Kwong’s Elegant Racing-run SEAT León TCR.

The two Hondas will be forced to start from the back of the grid in ninth and tenth positions for the first race, which starts at 10:00 MYT (03:00 CET).
