Zengo Motorsport announce STARD partnership for 2017 TCR International Series

Zengo Motorsport were included in the TCR International Series entry list for the 2017 season today, with the Hungarian team joining the series full-time after a few tastes back in 2015. The team will field a pair of Kia Cee’d TCRs, which are built by STARD.

“I am very proud to announce that STARD and Zengo Motorsport have established what we expect to be a successful cooperation,” said team owner Zoltán Zengo. “I have been amazed by the perfection of the new Kia Cee’d TCR that has been built and developed by STARD and highly appreciate their confidence in choosing us as their partner in the TCR International Series.”

The team will join the field from Spa-Francorchamps on May 7th, the event which marks the start of European leg of the TCR International Series, with former World Touring Car Championship driver Ferenc Ficza in one of their Cee’d TCRs: “We hope to be able to repay STARD’s confidence by reaching good results from the Belgian event onwards. We have named Ferenc Ficza as our first driver, because our mission at Zengo Motorsport has always been to take care of Hungary’s young and talented drivers.”

STARD CEO Michael Sakowitz added: “We are very pleased to have Zengo Motorsport, one of the most prestigious and successful touring car squads in recent years, with their leading driver Ferenc Ficza, running our brand new K:Force KIA Cee´d TCR in its maiden season in the TCR International series.”

Sakowitz also revealed the first contact with the Hungarian team date back to last year: “Zoltan Zengo got in touch with us in 2016 about his project and we immediately realised that Zengo Motorsport and STARD shared the same competitive targets. We are very optimistic that this will be a successful partnership and we will fully support the team with our premium customer service. We are looking forward to a very exciting first season.”

Zengo Motorsport claimed four outright wins in the WTCC, all scored by star driver Norbert Michelisz, who landed a works drive with Honda in 2016.
