Mercedes AMG announce driver pairings for the 2017 DTM season

With six weeks to go to the season curtain raiser, Mercedes AMG has announced its driver pairings for this year’s DTM, with all cars run by Team HWA.

The Stuttgar-based manufacturer has extensively prepared for the season which will see new technical regulations and specification tyres, with pre-season tests held in Portimao and Vallelunga. The final collective official test will take place next week at Hockenheim.

Despite HWA running all six cars, the drivers have been allocated in pairs. Gary Paffett and Robert Wickens will race for Mercedes-AMG Motorsport Mercedes Me, with returnee Maro Engel and Paul di Resta at Mercedes-AMG Motorsport SILBERPFEIL Energy.

2016 series runner-up and Mercedes newcomer Edoardo Mortara will team up with Lucas Auer at Mercedes-AMG Motorsport BWT.

Ulrich Fritz, Head of Mercedes AMG Motorsport DTM, said: “Whilst we work together as a team, the relationship with one’s immediate team-mate is usually a bit more intense. Fortunately, we have a well adjusted squad of drivers. We’ve got three strong teams to get the season under way, all of whom are capable of winning the team title.”
