Mat’o Homola still making the adjustment after SEAT to Opel switch

Mat’o Homola broke into the top ten in the first free practice session on Saturday at the Rustavi circuit in Georgia, but the Slovakian says he’s still adapting to the DG Sport Compétion-run Opel Astra TCR, after two years with the SEAT León.

The 22-year-old was just under nine-tenths down on Ferenc Ficza’s time in the 30-minute practice session. Homola says his new Belgian team is a great fit, but the challenge ahead is to get used to the Opel.

“The team is great, we are working really hard,” said Homola to TouringCarTimes. “The problem for me is the change of the car, as it’s very different to the SEAT in all aspects. The rear axle, breaking, accelerating, turning, everything is different.

“The car is still nervous but we’re getting to the set-up that we want,” he added. “We’ll make some big changes for Free Practice 2 to find the proper set-up, but it’s getting better and better.

“I think the first events we’ll be learning the car, but we’ll want to get as soon as possible at the top level. The top ten is OK for me in only my second ever session with this car.”
