Contrite Rob Austin apologises for second race exclusion

Handy Motorsport’s Rob Austin has issued an apology following his exclusion from the second race at Brands Hatch, admitting he didn’t see the yellow flags flying when he passed Andrew Jordan.

Austin was disqualified for the combined offence of passing West Surrey Racing’s Jordan under yellow flags, and the contact made with the BMW.

The stewards ruled he was “driving in a matter incompatible with general safety.”

In a statement published on his Facebook page, Austin said: “I am deeply embarrassed by this. There is no one to blame but myself. I have let down my team who have worked so hard to give me a fantastic car, my sponsors and my fans.

“I don’t know how but somehow I failed to see the yellow flags when I went up the inside of Andrew Jordan, who I have been to apologise to as well. There’s not a lot else I can say, overtaking under yellows is exclusion and I deserve my punishment.

“The move was clean until Morgan hit us, sending Andy sideways, I kept my foot in an attempt to straighten him back up but I should never of been alongside in the first place. Sorry to everyone who I have let down.”
